1. What type of activities did married working men have for leisure?
The type of activities married working men have for leisure is mostly drinking by going to saloons or drinking alcohol at home. Skilled workers tries to spend with their family as much as they can but for unskilled workers they don't spend time as much with their family. Most of the time they would spend their money for themselves before their family, they spend on stuff like, alcohol and movie tickets, poolrooms, billiard halls, bowling alleys, shooting galleries and gymnasia. They also play baseball.

2. What type of activities did women have to occupy leisure time?

Most married women do during their leisure time is mostly staying inside their homes and doesn't really going outside in public. Inside they do the chores inside the house like; cooking, cleaning, doing laundry outside, taking care of their children, and the money that they earned from working are mostly spent on the household and doesn't really spend money on themselves. Instead of chores they would gossip and talk about other wives about their lives and jobs. During 1905, working women entertained themselves with commercial entertainment from nickelodeon.

3. What type of activities did children have for leisure time?

I don't know about kids in general but working girls, they work as hard the working women and for their leisure time they would go to night school after work, also during their work, what would be considered leisure time for them, is by gossiping, singing, talk about books, movies and stuff on the newspaper, encouraging each other to try out some new fashions and joined clubs. Also I think that children would go into the streets and play in neighborhood parks and playgrounds, celebrating special occasions and there would be street performers to come and watch.

4. How did the transformation to an industrial society affect families?

I think the transformation to an industrial society affect families by letting the family members think about survival, supporting themselves and for the family, so they go out and look for jobs to survive, since this is during the industrial revolution, this is where people can have a lot of job opportunities and make money. Which lead to not making any time for their family since they are already so stressed from work and just want to relax for themselves and not really want to relax with the family because there would be stress at home too because they have to support their family.

5. Examine the pictures for each and describe what you see and connect.

-For the picture when the women is doing laundry, the laundry is like connected to other building of other peoples' houses and it seems kind of crowded with people and laundry. What I noticed is that the laundry isn't like in a backyard or anything its just between buildings so I will guess that the air is tight their also. What I can connect to this photo is that even today when we go outside to our backyard or in front of our house is that if your neighbors also come out, they would just talk to each other about anything and socialize.

-For the picture of the organ grinder with children watching is that it takes place in New York City, but what I have noticed in the background is a board with a different language so it kind of makes me wonder is this really NYC? or is that many people from all over the world came along looking for jobs? What I can connect to this picture is that this reminds me of going to Boston or Downtown Crossing and I would see street performers and many people would gather, like a lot, but in this picture only kids came, so today street performers entertain people of all ages kind of.

-For the picture of the kids playing it looks like they are playing outside and there was kids taking care of kids, kids watching other kids play, and all of them are having fun. What I can connect for today is that, I wouldn't see as much kids going out to play because of the advancement of technology and that would usually end up staying inside the house.

-The pictures of where the working men go for leisure time is that it looks like they are posing trying to look cool and stuff just because they are hard working men and they just want to show off of who they are I guess. What I can connect to today is that I guess men in he leisure time they would try to look cool to impress someone or people...

-The pictures of the working girls is that, I have realized they have always traveled in groups and such and they seem to be very hard working and their leisure time would just be like chit-chatting and they would always spend time together. What I can connect to today is that for working girls it seems kind of similar I don't see any difference of the lives of the working girls except today we have less working hours and such for everyone.

Reflection:
Each kind of group in society, the working men, women, girls, and children spend their leisure time differentlly. When the men are leaving from their job, with the money they earned, they would usually spend it on their selfish selves, because of all the stress from work, working for almost the whole day, they just want to relax from being tired. They would usually go to saloons to hang out with other working men, they would go anywhere to entertain themselves, playing pool, movie tickets, and playing baseball. Most of them would go drinking to relieve the stress, which is the most likey reason to drink even in today's time. They rarely spend time with their family, because they would go out on their own. I think they wouldn't want to go home because there is also stress at home, just to take care of the family, some kids can't take care of themselves so the parents have to take care of them. But don't worry! There is usually a mother to take care of them. In the leisure time for the working women, after leaving from work they go work at their own home. They take care of their children if they have any, they do the chores in the house, like cleaning, cooking, and laundry, they all do those things during their free time. With the money they earned from their jobs they would spend on the household. But chores isn't the only thing they do in their leisure time, they go gossip about other wives to other wives, talk about life and their jobs. The children of the family has the most fun leisure time than anyone else in the family, kids at a young age would go to the streets and watch street perforners do their acts, and sometime go out for special occasions, also they can go to neighborhood parks and playgrounds. And for working girls they would go to the movies, talk about fashion, books, movies, gossip and sing. My opinion on the different activites that were associated with males and females is that men spend it on themselves and the women would spend it their family. The females are taking responsibility for the family. men are ust taking care of themselves why would they want or need a family.

industrialization wordle.PNG

Difference between the two wordles:

In the first wordle, it doesn't have that much words as the second wordle. In the first wordle I used words from the textbook and what I have already know from learning industrialization from last year. In the second wordle, we went into more detail about industrialization, last year when we learned about industrialization, we only learned the industrialization in the United States, but during the past two weeks we learned that industrial revolution actually started in Great Britain then it spread to the rest of the world. So the second wordle has more words than the first wordle because we went into more detail about the industrialization. The words I put on the second one that I didn't put on the first is the "invisible hand" because well I already knew there were workers who have to make the products for the consumers but I never thought of it as the consumer not appreciating the invisible hand, and only the invisble hand can only make the products for people who can buy them not for the ones who can't buy them. I also have more words that involve with business and working jobs because it the way of how people, they have to make money to live and money is way to buy the things people want, so people will have to work for their money, and companies have to make products to make money and hire workers to make the products too, its like everyone gains money either way. Also the new inventions to more jobs, because if you have something new and people like it you would have to make more and sell it and make money! I have learned many reasons why industrialization has started.

p. 257- Section 1,2,3

Section 1
9.a. What natural resources enabled the Industrial Revolution to begin in Great Britain?
The natural resources that enabled the Industrial Revolution to begin in Great Britain is coal and iron.

b. How did the cotton gin affect slavery in the United States?
They needed to make more cotton and since pulling seeds out of the cotton blossoms is time consuming, they needed slaves to do the work. But when the cotton jin was created is was easily to remove its like they didn't need the slaves anymore.

c. Defend or refute this statement: "Without the steam engine, the Industrial Revolution would not have amounted to more than a pile of rickety machines."
I think this statement is kind of true, because the steam engine can also produce electricity, and today we have a lot of technology that uses electricity, and devices that we need to use that requires electricity. PLUS if we like go back in time, and change events that has already happened, the future might change.

d. Who were the Luddites and what did they do?
